Production Managers Forum

Production Managers Forum

During the 2008 Production Managers Forum we will review processes and procedures that focus on  attaining production goals, company goals and assure customer satisfaction. Production managers will learn skills required to maximize machine through-put consistent with good quality while maintaining the integrity of the production schedule. In addition, we will discuss the value of profitable orders vs. easy-to-run orders. (We call this developing a company-wide perspective)  It is important that every key manager understands his role and how his actions impact the total company.  Is the goal to provide the customer a quality experience or is it narrowly defined to those standard production goals of waste and productivity? We believe it is both.

The program will help the Production Manager gain a better understanding of the overall goal(s) of his company and where he fits into that equation. He will see how the attainment of his goals helps achieve the overall Company goals of increased profitable sales, the growth and development of strong customer relationships, and he will better understand the relationship between productivity goals and customer satisfaction.

The forum will focus on industry “Best Practices” and should raise the participants expectations of themselves and their co-workers.  Proven processes like running to standard, operation excellence, the basics of lean manufacturing, the 5S's, learning how to effectively keep score, understanding the differences between leadership and being the boss and when each approach is most appropriate, managing priorities, etc.

The program provides an opportunity for Production Managers to meet with a group of their peers to exchange ideas and work together on challenges facing them back at their own plants.

The "takeaways" include:

    * An Action Plan that will be used to address a specific problem the attendee has brought to the seminar.
    *  A number of specific "best practices" that each Production Manager can implement immediately to improve his operations.
    *  A basis of comparison to compare his plant’s practices and performance with those of his peers.
    *  Potential solutions to challenges he faces at his plant, as a result of discussions with peers.
    * A better understanding of his specific roles and responsibilities.
    * A better understanding of how his goals and objectives should be aligned with the overall goals and objectives of the owner and the Company.

Agenda: The course begins at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday the 24th with  the TAPPI General Session: Buying the right equipment for the allocation, financial considerations, installation and commissioning the equipment to rapidly reach project ROI, quality and productivity levels.
